Following the closure of this former RAF airfield in 1994, some of the hangars have been sold for business use, employing more than 300 people on this site. However, despite marketing, many of the remaining buildings on site have fallen into a state of disrepair, becoming an eyesore..
Strawsons Property, a family run regeneration and agriculture company, is keen to invest in the site and deliver an exemplar eco scheme. It is anticipated that the masterplan for this brownfield site will design a sustainable mixture of uses, encouraging living and working on the same site. It would incorporate energy efficient homes and homes for local people, greenspace and neighbourhood facilities as well as the use of renewable energy sources.
Exhibitions were held prior to a masterplan being created and a planning application being submitted, in order to incorporate your views.
Local facilities will be incorporated into the scheme, these could include a school, residential care development, local public transport improvements, healthcare and other community uses.
A planning application has now been submitted and the masterplan can be viewed here. Email your comments to rafupwood@beattiegroup.com
